McPHERSON (Henny)

During the mid 1800’s there were many families with the surname of McPherson living in Hopeman and to distinguish between these families it was common practice to use family bye/nicknames. The name ‘Henny’ was given to one of these families when John McPherson married his wife Janet Hendry during 1839, or his second wife Henrietta Patience during 1850. – The family name of Henny is still in use – 2016.
John’s father, James McPherson was one of the early settlers of Hopeman and along with his wife Janet Main they moved along the coast with other McPherson families and young couples from the Ardersier/Petty parish register areas which are located to the east of Inverness. More details on these early days are included within the McPherson general genealogy section.
